Overview

Join us for this webinar where we will share an overview of the Oliver McGowan Code of Practice, which sets out how Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered providers can meet the statutory training on learning disability and autism appropriate to their staffs’ roles.

The Code of Practice was laid in Parliament on 19 June 2025, and it becomes final on 6 September 2025.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism (‘Oliver’s Training’) is the government’s preferred and recommended training package to support registered providers to meet the legislative requirement.

This training is an important way to ensure staff have the right knowledge and skills to provide safe and compassionate care for people with a learning disability and autistic people and to improve outcomes for this population.

 

What to expect?

We will be joined by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and CQC on this webinar, where we will:

  • explain what the Code of Practice covers
  • provide an overview of Oliver’s Training, including the different tiers, and delivery
  • detail what support is available to help registered providers to deliver Oliver’s Training, including funding and the Quality Assured Care Learning Service (QACLS)
  • describe how the CQC will use the Code of Practice and considering compliance with the learning disability and autism training requirement.

 

There will be a Q&A with our speakers, where we’ll use your questions at registration to help shape the discussion.

  • CQC-registered providers

  • Non CQC-registered providers who provide care and support for people with a learning disability and autistic people

  • All staff involved in the provision of care and support for autistic people and/or people with learning disabilities

  • Commissioners of services.
